You do not always have to buy from a high-end store in order to get the newest trends. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2015, “The U.S. apparel industry today is a $12 billion business and the average American family spends $1,700 on clothes annually” ( Forbes ). That is a lot of money if you think about it. There are many other options; you just have to put some time and effort into your shopping.  Don’t we all love sales? Especially when it is for a particular product that we have been looking for. One of the biggest ways shoppers can save money is by paying attention to sales and clearance items online. Why do we care about fashion? For centuries, fashion has been an outlet for self- expression. Through the rapid growth of social media, fashion trends have been evolving much quicker, even on a week-by-week basis. We constantly see commercials of celebrities advertising the new fashion style. These products become very popular among millennials and have developed into something the fashion industry calls “a trend.” Because of ever-changing trends, customers are constantly bombarded with advertisements such as celebrity endorsements, and clothing has become increasingly expensive. Hi everyone! I am Melody, and I have been at Santa Monica College for two years. I am majoring in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting. I will hopefully graduate Santa Monica College with an Associate's degree in Business Administration. I am writing about fashion to inform shoppers, help them find bargains, and teach people about fads. In the next two posts, I will be focusing on how clothing companies use celebrities to affect the fashion trends and ways in which you can find trends at a cheaper price. Growing up, I did not pay attention to what others were wearing; I was only interested in my own style of clothing. As I got older, I began working and had extra money to spend on clothes. I would go to the mall with my friends and come home to my parents yelling at me for spending too much money.
